2 weeks and counting

Today is my little lady's 2 week birthday. Where does the time go?
Being a new parent is a funny thing I think. For nine months (or your whole life, if you're like me) you spend thinking about what your new baby will look like, smell like, act like, what her little personality will develop into. And then she's suddenly here.
And her daddy and I wonder what we ever did with ourselves before we knew her.
She's as sweet as pie, an expert snuggler, a serious eater, and a not so serious sleeper. I can already notice that her little cheeks are getting a little chunkier. Her newborn onesies are getting a little snugger.
And I can't help but be a little sad. Every parent wants their child to grow and thrive...and I am so thankful and blessed to have a healthy child. But knowing that she'll never be this tiny & small again breaks my heart a little. Is that weird? Does this make me a crazy Mama?
It does make me wish I had a photographic memory. I know that before I know it, she'll be running around the house, talking my ear off, getting ready for her first day of school.
But for now, I just stare at her tiny little toes & fingers & every little wrinkle and roll...
And hope that I don't forget a moment of her precious newborn stage.

Summer in Maine

Hi world...I'm alive and well. Greg and I have had a busy couple of weeks, but I'm happy to say we are finally getting back into the swing of things again...at least until the baby comes. :)

We just got home from a week in Maine. I think it's safe to say there is no better place to be in the summer than in Maine. And there's no better place to be in the summer in Maine than on the coast! We headed down to Sand Beach (which is in Acadia National Park, for all you non-Mainers) for an afternoon with Greg's sister, brother in law, and adorable kiddos.
A few brave souls were crazy enough to go swimming (the water was probably only about 55 degrees!)
We stayed a little closer to shore, wading in the waves and crab hunting on the rocks....
And taking in these mountain views...which are gorgeous and surround the entire beach.
Living in Central PA I get a little nostalgic for my time in Maine, because a day at the beach is a 4 hour drive away now. Sitting here smelling the salt air, the wind in my face, the sand in my toes, it was a recipe for instant happiness. No, it really doesn't get much better than this!
Unless you get to spend your beach afternoon with these cuties!
I'm telling you...there's just something special about the Maine Coast that you wont find anywhere else.
Thank you, Maine. You're beautiful. Don't ever change.

Normal craft blogging to resume tomorrow. :) I have lots of nursery projects to post, so stay tuned!!

Tulips and Cherry Blossoms

G and I spent the afternoon in DC soaking up the delicious aroma of those gorgeous cherry blossoms...
Don't you just want to eat them up?
Although I think we saw more of these beautiful blooms covering the ground than their trees...
{Couldn't you just crawl under that tree and take a nap?}
Either way, the air smelled oh so scrumptious.
And even Mr. Robin posed for a pic...
Guess there's no arguing that spring is officially here!

Hope you all had a great weekend soaking up the joys of Spring!

Disney Recap

So we're home from a great vacation and I'm having a little trouble getting back in the swing of things...
The break from the cold winter skies of Pennsylvania was great...
I wish I could have brought all the beds of flowers home with me!
Is there a TSA regulation against checking a thousand boxes of pansies on an airplane?
And as we were traveling through "Africa" in Animal Kingdom, I found these adorable little puffs. Loved them!

We met some furry friends...
And some not so furry ones...

Those of us without a baby in our belly rode some daredevil rides...and got a little soaked in the process!
Don't worry, I didn't mind staying high and dry. :)

And what trip to Disney would be complete without seeing a few characters?
Though they weren't all as "animated" as I thought they'd be...
...I was still quite impressed with these topiaries we found throughout the park.

We all had a great time.
In fact, I loved the Magic Kingdom so much that I wanted to walk up to the front door of Cinderella's castle and see if there was room for one more.

Back to reality {and crafting!} tomorrow.

Visitors!

If the posts slow to a stop this week, I apologize. My momma & step dad are here visiting for the week!

I am always envious of people who have family who live close by. They live a good 11 hour drive away, so visits are few and far between. Needless to say, we have lots on the agenda, places to go, people to see, things to do!
My mom gave me this sign for Christmas last year...fitting? :)

Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend! We'll catch up soon.

Baby G

Coming to the D & G household in August 2011....
Baby #1!

Greg and I are very excited to find out what this parenthood thing is all about...and now that the 1st trimester is over (starting tomorrow..but who's counting?), this Momma is very excited to start feeling like a normal person again! Although I'm told that the sheer exhaustion never does go away... :)

So I guess it will come as no surprise that the D & G blog might become a little cluttered with baby projects in the next few months. I have a 3 mile long list of book marked projects I want to tackle. Is it possible to overdose on itty bitty adorable craftiness? I sure hope not...because if so, I'm screwed!

Woohoo, weekend!

Happy weekend, everyone!
G and I are headed up to New Hampshire & Maine this weekend. A little business to take care of (more on that later) but mostly getting some unexpected but welcome time with family & friends. Although, the 15 degree temperatures are not something I'm looking forward to!

Good thing I love sweaters.
And carbs.

Gingerbread Extravaganza!

Every year my amazing mother hosts a gingerbread decorating day. She spends hours and hours baking, cutting out, and putting together a gingerbread house (or in many cases, something other than a house) for everyone, and we all decorate them together. Kids and adults big kids alike! It's one of my favorite days of the year, and I was so lucky to have been "home" for it this year!
This year she let everyone choose their "structure," so we had a big variety. And we aren't talking tiny houses here people. Let's just say my mother has a problem with the scale of these structures. (Note: a castle so large my niece could have probably climbed inside if she wanted.)

What I love most about this day, is the creativity & imagination the kids display. It's refreshing & fun to watch them create with such concentration & concern.

the transformation...
is always magnificent!

A barn...

a farmhouse...

an 18 wheeler...

a train...

and a castle fit for a princess...

A day full of family, candy, & Christmasy fun...doesn't get much better than that!
